My ISP just made postini.com available as a spam blocker.
I was wondering if someone has any comments about it.
Basically, it seems to do a really good job of preventing
crapola from reaching my regular download. In the last
couple of days, I've received over 2000 spams. It allowed
in about 1/2 dozen or so and I had a couple of false positives
marked as spam. The only downside, if you can call it that, is
that I need to check the website and review the subjects on
a periodic basis. If I don't they're automatically deleted every
14 days.

For the spams that make it though, they have a feedback
mechanism that allows me to report them for future reference.

Also, does anyone happen to know if any attempt is made
to report the offenders?

As for though it's reach any where, I would hire big teeth because your ISP won't enable such
features. Now, I guess who's going to wait for this. I remember people saying this isn't worth the
hassle. I now understand what they mean. It's because Yahoo changed their rules to filter legitimate
email. IMO that's ok because Yahoo is a free service. I wouldn't even pay if I received tons of spam
as most of us do, but spammers have technics that are every day more and more difficult to adopt. I
guess Hotmail souldn't hire spammers to manage their servers because this may give results to
security leaks. I don't know what you think...

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what point you're trying to make.

As an ISP, Postini has been an excellant service that we have utilized for
years. It essentially allows each customer to control his/her own filters, and
our most of our customers love the service (all of the long term customers
swear by it).

There is however one caveat. If the ISP does not implement it across the board
(ie. on all accounts), the spammers will get around it by routing spam directly
to the ISP's mail server. This applies to any filtering service.

I don't know. So far, nothing seems to be getting through other
than that which is filtered through postini. So far so good I guess.
